# DATABASE_DIALECT_UNKNOWN

The database type could not be told from `DATABASE_URL`, and `DB_DIALECT` is not set.

## Cause

The database type could not be told from `DATABASE_URL`, and `DB_DIALECT` is not set.

The CLI tells the database from the start of `DATABASE_URL`: `postgres://` or `postgresql://` for PostgreSQL, `mysql://` for MySQL, and `file:` or a `.db` path for SQLite. Any other URL needs `DB_DIALECT`.

## Fix

Set `DB_DIALECT` to `postgresql`, `mysql` or `sqlite` in `.env`, or give `DATABASE_URL` in one of the forms above.

## Example

```text
✗ The database type could not be told from `DATABASE_URL`.
  Why:  It starts with none of `postgres://`, `mysql://` or `file:`, and `DB_DIALECT` is not set.
  Next: Set `DB_DIALECT` to `postgresql`, `mysql` or `sqlite` in `.env`.
