# PROJECT_ALREADY_INITIALIZED

The folder already has a `nextly.config.ts`, so `nextly init` did not overwrite it.

## Cause

The folder already has a `nextly.config.ts`, so `nextly init` did not overwrite it.

`nextly init` writes `nextly.config.ts` and the folders beside it. It stops rather than overwrite a configuration that is already there, which may hold your collections.

## Fix

* Keep the existing configuration: the project is already set up, and `nextly init` has nothing to add.
* To start again from the defaults, run `nextly init --force`. It overwrites `nextly.config.ts`, so commit or copy the file first.

## Example

```text
✗ Nextly is already initialized in this directory.
  Why:  /home/you/app/nextly.config.ts already exists.
  Next: Use `--force` to overwrite the existing configuration.
